Five Dollars!

A while back..I was driving past a small thrift store when what to my wondering eyes should appear...six cane backed chairs and a dining room table...for FIVE DOLLARS! They were right there...outside the store, begging to be taken home. I couldn't say no...now could I? They practically jumped into my car, I tell you!
I only needed two chairs, so I left the rest behind.....and kicked myself for a few days afterwards. I really don't need a dining room table and four more chairs...but I'm sure I could have found something to do with them.
What I did need though was two matching chairs for my sCraproom. The cane chairs were in pretty good shape, except for the rose velvet seats....which...I thought would be much better reupholstered in ...are you ready...drop cloth. After taking the seats off, I spray painted the two chairs with a couple of coats of .99 cent flat black spray paint and finished them off with my new BFF, Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed Bronze.With my Cricut and the Home Decor cartridge, I cut the crown stencils. After ironing them onto the drop cloth fabric, I simply spray painted them with the same flat black spray paint
I used on the chairs. Super simple!
So...what do you think?
Thanks so much for dropping by!

From old and outdated to

hip and cool!...No..not me silly.I'm sorry to tell you I was not accosted on the street and given a fantastic makeover...dag nab it.

A Savers opened up closer to my home this week and early Saturday morning...I went armed with my to-go coffee from 7-11 (you can't save money by shopping at a Thrift store, if you stop by Starbucks first for you 6 dollar Venti Mint Mocha, now can you?). After scanning the store I came across this poor crystal lamp with the icky brass all over it....bleck..bleck..bleck! The entire thrift store experience is something that has definitely ...grown on me. The first time I attempted to enter a thrift store....Well...lets just say there are not enough Mint Mochas in the world to help me tolerate THAT smell. I have to say though..that it seems..... I have become a transformed thrift store shopper and it didn't hurt.... that since this was a brand new store..it didn't have THAT smell . I seem to spend a great deal of time these days reading blogs where the most amazing women transform the most unattractive items...and give them a whole new life, simply armed with a can of Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint,
Gorilla Glue and some burlap.

So...with all of their incredible inspiration and helpful step by step tutorials..I felt ready to tackle the lamp. I took the poor thing home and stared it down for a day. Sunday morning I awoke feeling courageous enough to jump in. My husband...gave me a couple of "what the heck are you doing" looks and went about his day, smart man that he is.

I did run into a snag though...so..off to Mom's I went (Mom's the most famous do-it yourselfer I personally know) to help me figure out the light bulb thingy. After which, I went home to continue dissecting the victim ....er.....I mean lamp.

I sprayed the little guy with a couple of coats of .99 cent flat black spray paint and finished it all off with the Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint I have developed a relationship with....Warning: Don't stand still to long around me.

Later that night..I reassembled my brand spankin new to me lamp. I borrowed the black lamp shade from another lamp, which is currently sitting naked and alone. I do have plans to add a burlap shade to this lamp though, but for now..I'm kind of loving this.

Thanks so much for visiting. I would love to know what you think.

Icky brass to

fabulous!

I'm still...still here

OK...so yes...I have been busy. I could come up with a ton of excuses...but in the end...I've just been a flaky blogger. It's not like I haven't been crafting or making things...I just haven't found...no..scratch that...I haven't made the time to post. So, this is me..making up for lost time.
I've included Halloween decor. Some home made and some not, a few Halloween party pictures and a buffet tablet too, complete with gruesome choices to feed the witches and goblins.
Finally there are a couple of Harvest Festival photos thrown in as well!

The beginning of the post though is...my newly found passion for Home decor...OMG..I spend way to much time..daily stalking home decor blogs. Let me just say ..you women are beyond amazing! I...am...in..awe...and you have all inspired me!
Tonight's blog is a link to one of those very blogs, A Soft Place to Land and a shout out to all the gorgeous burlap (yep....burlap) projects out there. La*t*Da posted a tutorial on burlap..and I could hardly wait to give it a go. I got my trusty cricut machine out and cut out my designs on freezer paper, ironed them onto the burlap and ...spray painted away...right on the burlap. EASY PEASY! The frame is the same one I used for the spider wall decor below. The frame was white and I spray painted in with the infamous Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. The pillow was even easier. Yes...it did involve sewing...but because there is no wrong side to burlap, I didn't even have to turn it inside out. Just sew, stuff and go! I am linking this to A Soft Place to land ( My first DIY project...eek!)

More October pictures.

Boo-ritos, Werewolf Eyeballs, Bat Wings, Shredded Toadstools, Black Widow Venom, Goblins Tears, Mummy Wraps and the Tower of Terror.....muhahaha....

Menu Buffet cards, printed on the computer, crumpled and soaked in tea to
give them an aged effect.

Vintage Halloween photos. The Graphics Fairy is a fantastic site for all sorts of wonderful vintage prints and photos.

Water bottle labels (printed on my computer and found at Love Manor) which I edited, printed and added to burlap. The spider were from Target' and I added a dab of red Stickles to spice them up a bit.

Large spider also from Target hot glued to burlap and framed.

Rats cut with my cricut.

Assorted apothecary jars filled with skulls and pumpkins.

Pumpkins spray painted and placed on candle stick holders. Black Crows from Michael's.

My baby girl, Courtney and my incredibly adorable grandson, Logan
.......and that...was October!
Tada!

Two posts in three days!...Egad, I'm think I'm on a roll!!
The challenge over at The Scrappy Frogs Challenge blog was to use a tree and so, I thought of this ...just so darn cute stamp set from Our Craft Lounge. I was really thinking about doing a fall feel to this tree, but in the end, the Stampin" Up! paper won me over.

I'm still here.........

I bet you were beginning to think I'd forgotten all about you! Well...good news...I would never do that...I was just being lazy. I could chalk it up to ...a missing mojo..or being way too busy traveling the world...or working long hard hours slaving away at a desk...but in reality..I was just being lazy....and enjoying it too!
The start of fall has me joining some new to me home decor blogs and totally obsessing over the amazing things people are doing out there with the most unusual things! Wow. I may have to post some of the ways I've been inspired in the near future.
Back to stamping now though..I actually made a few cards last night..and..you know what? It was FUN! The cards I'm posting today were made for a swap on Stamplicious. If you never had the chance stop by the group and introduce yourself. It's a great group of sometimes....oh-so-chatty ladies....who sometimes even stamp!! hehehe

Serendipity Sweet

It seems like there's a riddle that must go something like....When does a Tuesday feel like a Monday......answer: When it starts out bad...and goes down hill from there? Enough of this crankiness...
~~~
Have you seen the incredible digital stamps
over at Mo's Digital Pencil. WOW!
I think...I may be slightly addicted to them......In fact...I fear, I may actually need an intervention and a 12 step program.....
My name is Sheri...
Don't you just wish you could
just chill in a big glass of lemonade lately?...I know I do. It is hot...hot...crazy hot. What's the deal? You'd think it was summer or something!
I have been so busy....not stamping. Actually..I've been trying a bit of sewing. It all started innocently enough with my picking up a sewing machine so that I could sew on my cards. I wanted to leave the sewing machine out..so I would use it. Which meant..it needed a snazzy sewing machine cover...with matching curtains for the window it was near...which meant..the closet where all my scrapbooking supplies are kept...needed new drapes....and gee...I have a new granddaughter..who would love to have a new blanket...
This is beginning to remind me of ...
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie....which...leads me right into my House Mouse card. Nice segue...don't you think?
Over at Stamplicious it's challenge time again. Mindy and I chose a sketch from Taylored Expressions this week...ands here are the details.
I'm ...a grandma...again!
Since we last chatted...my granddaughter, Emma, made her grand entrance..and I was so very blessed to be able to be there when she appeared! It was a absolutely breathtaking experience and one, which I will forever be grateful to my beautiful daughter and her wonderfully loving husband. Emma was born nearly one week ago, in what the Dr. would describe as one of the smoothest deliveries she'd seen in a very long time. I was also able to be there when my first grandchild, Logan arrived and I can tell you that...Emma's birth was every bit as much of an awe inspiring experience as her brothers! I only wish I could ....begin to describe what it's like to see your baby girl and her wonderful husband bring a life into the world...there are just simply are not enough adjectives to describe this very humbling experience......Wow!
This card made was using a sketch from Mercy, and can be found here. I am loving these stamps from Motivet. I ordered the stamp and fully expected it to take a couple of weeks for it to arrive, since it was coming all the way from Canada. However, much to my surprise......in just one short week...it was on my doorstep. Love it!
Holey Guacamole...It's Christmas in August! Yesterday...on my doorstep ...were 2 LARGE boxes of wonderful...beautiful...spectacular blog candy from one of the most talented & generous card makers ever! Jaccque of Jacque's Joie de Vivre. She offered up this amazing gift on her blog a little bit ago.......
and I won!!!!!! Thank you so very much Jacque! You are an absolute doll and I have had such a pleasure getting to know you..not to mention all of the unending inspiration and the thoughtful comments you always find the time to leave. You are a gem!
If you havn't had a chance to see Jacques's magnificent work...do yourself a favor...stop by........and prepare to be amazed!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend....mine was busy...and fun packed. We are not so patiently awaiting our future grand daughter's arrival...so that is keeping us on the edge of our toes around here! The mommy-to-be..is such a trooper..not a complainer at all..but I would have to say...she's as ready as anyone...to...see her baby girl!
I decided to try a few new techniques for this card. After watching one of Dawn's video's on a how to make a Faux Quilt card...I was encouraged to give it a try. Dawn has a way of making everything so simple...and I have to say..it really was easy peasy!
Love Hate Relationship
This...card...(grrrrr) had me bothered, bewildered and befuddled last night.....I had a different image...sent to me by Nicky (thanks Nicky...miss you!) but...my hand eye coordination..was...well...not coming out to play. I flubbed it, by trying something outside my comfort zone, which is not a bad thing...but didn't go so well last night. So.... I begrudgingly...........moved on...grrrrr.
Next up, was this image ...also from Nicky. Which ...brings me to the Love/Hate ...portion of my card. I really love the way the card looked prior to the image being colored and added. I'm still... not so thrilled with the coloring of my image and I'm still a bit perplexed by the whole thing.....but, here it is.. Sometimes..you have to just go for it..right? Right!.....Right?
Rain.....would be nice.
Is it hot where you are? We have been seeing near triple digits in Southern California..and not to mention ..the humidity....ack! I think....as .....my age increases...my tolerance for high temperatures...decreases. Interesting phenomenon.You too? Although....I'm not quite sure how that happens...because I've been 26 for a very long time......
I'm finally getting around to using another Tilda from the Chasing Butterfly collection...I have to admit...I've been hoarding them. It's a sickness ...I know. =D I put this card together for Mojo Monday and the Stamplicious group. I would love for you to stop by our Stamplicicous group and check us out if you get the chance...It really is such a fun group of stampers!
Adventure of a Lifetime
I want to go where they're going.....as long as it has air conditioning...Am I right? Wouldn't it be fun to go to Africa...go on a safari....see the wildlife and the jungle...from the comfort of your air conditioned SUV. Then...go back to the well-appointed resort in Zanzibar....for some refreshments that include umbrellas...OK.. snap back! Guess what though...The Hilton Hotel chain IS opening a hotel..right there in Zanzibar....in October. Anyone up for a road trip?
The first time I saw this lion from the new Magnolia Animal collection...I just knew I had to have it and the new Jungle Tilda is so perfect with him. I looked high and low for some jungle themed paper to put my little card together...and couldn't find anything, but I did find the animal print ribbon. So I decided to make my own patterned paper. I simply used a hole punch with black paper and randomly placed the spots to give the paper a sort of animal feel.
Make a Splash!
Mermaid Tilda might be one of my favorite Tildas. The Scrappy Frogs Challenge Blog's current challenge is "Under the Sea". So...I thought it would be a perfect time to bring this Tilda out from hiding. I colored Tilda with copics and globbed on (very technical term) Crystal Accents. The bubbles are simply Skittles. For my sentiment, I chose my Just Rite stamper and the Curlz Font. OK...your turn...just like Scrappy and Froggy said...grab your snorkel and head over to the Scrappy Frog Challenge blog to see all the other wonderful creations and don't forget to join in the fun. The prize is a $10.00 gift certificate for StampinScrapin.com!
I used a Sugar Nellie, Gorjuss Girl from Funky Kits! Love them! I colored her with a few copics and double matted her. The border strip was made with a EK Success Border Punch .
Okey dokey..that's about it... gotta go....
Happy Independence Day America!
I'm thrilled you've decided to do the Scrapbook News & Review, Oh Say Can You See Blog Hop with me. How's that for a mouthful? If you came from Cathy' s blog, Ink It Up, Stamp It Out ....you're heading in the right direction. If not...so that you don't miss out on all of the amazing projects submitted by over 90 other participants...you can start at the beginning by going to the SNR Card Universe right here.
My card was made with a Digital Stamp from All That Scraps, by CC Designs, called July Kiki. If you've never used a digital stamp....I highly recommend it. All you do is download the image and print! I colored mine with copics and used my nesties to cut it out and mount it. The paper ruffle at the bottom of the card ...was my first attempt using this paper folding technique...and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. My star was cut with my Cricut and SCAL. I added the button, a bow and some stickles ...and there you have it!
Okey Dokey.......though I hate to see you go it is now my job is to send you off,
all the way from California to New England to Jennifer's
Paper Pie Keepsakes to see her precious entry!
Tell Jennifer I said Hi!
Have fun, be safe and enjoy you 4Th of July. Thanks so much for hopping by!
Happy Monday!!
No?...Well..you can't blame a girl for trying....
I have been hoarding my Tilda's from the Butterfly collection for some time now... Honestly ..I was a little intimated by so many of the amazing cards I've seen out there...(you girls know who you are ;D)..but, they've been calling my name lately...so I thought I'd give it a go. I have to say....I'm so sorry I waited so long, because this Tilda is by far, my favorite. She just so fun to color and I think..it's because of her size......simply put ....there's more to love! I seem to always make 5 1/2 inch square cards....I think it's because of the room it provides and this Tilda definitely needs the room.
The details..are simple..I colored Tilda with copics...and matted her with a scalloped nestie ...I used an old sketch and put the card together with double sided patterned paper.
How easy is that? ...
Have a wonderful week and thanks so much for dropping by!
Not too shabby....
I am so sorry I haven't been around for the last few days ...well, not really..but I did miss you! hehehe...I was on vacation with my family up in beautiful Lake Arrowhead. We rented a gorgeous home with a view of nothing but humongous trees and the air was so...so..so wonderful. We made fantastic dinners, barbecued, played hilarious games, napped and just simply enjoyed each others company. It was a most enjoyable time and I cannot wait to do it again. In fact, I told my family, they were going to have to drag me out kicking and screaming. In the end...I behaved. The place we stayed was Misty Pines and..if your nice to "my new house" ;D I highly recommend you stay there sometime.
My card was made for two challenges...The Roses on Paper Challenge blog and also the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge . I used a Tilda with a bow, which..BTW..my friend, Candy Mills sent to me from the Shabby Chic Summer Collection . Thank you so much Candy!!!!...Keeping with the shabby theme... I used some cherries and plaid paper...gave her some denim jeans and a teesny gingham bow. I double punched a few polka dot black flowers and added some buttons. My Tilda was matted using a Scallop rectangle nestie. Soooooooo...what do ya think?
Thanks so much for dropping by and have fantastic day!
OM..gosh..I almost forgot to say...if you have not had the opportunity to check out the Yahoo group Stamplicious.....you really need to. It is such a fun..fun group and sometime .....we even chat about our love of stamping! Just click on the Stamplicious Blinkie in the right hand corner of my blog......and it will magically take you right there!
See you soon.
Happy Friday
Yippee! It's ..Friday!!!..and I am off! Yippee!! I will be spending time with my family and that is my absolute ..favorite thing to do.
One card...two challenges...and I have enough trouble with just one challenge.
Lately..I seem to be attracted to all thing pink! This card was no exception...The image is another digital stamp and this one is from the Doodle Palace. Super easy to download and print with my ink jet printer and color. I do recommend you either let it set over night or set with your heat gun, just to make sure it won't smear before you color it. The sentiment and paper are all Stampin' Up! This card was made for the most fun group ever, Stamplicious. We chose a older sketch of Jen's from I Heart 2 Stamp. This week, I also chose to participate in the Copic Creations challenge , which was wood..I don't know why....but that just sounds funny.......
I added a few buttons and tied them up with a bit of twine, which I think went nicely with the Ark them. Are you getting tired of my buttons yet?
OK..I'm going to get my day started. Stop by our Stamplicious group and check us out if you have the time. We would love to have you! You can just click on the blinkie in my blog....it'll take you right there!
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for stopping by.
